I have been sitting her with this window open all day on my computer, mocking me: So you think you got something to say yet? What makes you think anyone cares what you have to say? What are you going to write today?
Well crap, I got nothing coherent to say. I was thinking about a funny anecdote from my trip to Vegas with Bill sans kids or something cute the kids did or something annoying the kids and Bill did. But nada. My head is a bit foggy as I fight off a cold that is knocking the door. Sorry, cold I am so not answering the door–I have Thanksgiving happening this weeks. Come back later. Or, you know, NEVER.
So, I am again relying on the beautiful Karen and her 10 Days of Thanksgiving Prompts. How ironic that when I am feeling my least creative, I am going to now write about creativity. While Karen’s prompt is to write about my own creativity, I want to write about the importance of creativity. Especially for kids.
I know I constantly sing the praises of my kids school. As an educator, there is nothing more important than a good education and I believe that every child should have access to a high quality education.
My kids creativity amazes me every day. The books about Zombees (his spelling) that Noah writes. The shows they put on. The songs they make up. Nothing is impossible when you are a kids and when you are encouraged to create things. As adults, we are not very often encouraged to create things. I try to do this in the kitchen as much as possible. I will make a recipe my own–or just throw stuff together and hope it works out.
My kids get to take drama, music and art 3 times a week. That is amazing. Creating is a huge part of what they do and this sets them up to become creators of knowledge. It will give them the skills and confidence they need to forge their own path and not just follow the directions. Being creative is more than just playing. Being creative harnesses something inside us that has a desire/need to be unleashed. I think about that as I use my camera to capture moments–to make photos. To create something.
This post is all over the place–sorry about that. But writing about being creative gets me thinking about what it means and how important it is for us to be creators of things–knowledge, art, food, music. Creativity is how we express ourselves. Creativity is how we share ourselves and our gifts with those around us.
Creativity is essential to human life. How are you being creative?
