A Room Of Ones Own

I have an office. This isn’t new really, but the fact that it is now functional is. I’m a pack rat. I don’t throw things away. I should. I have been wanting to get my office in shape, as I have this little thing called a dissertation to write. And well, I needed a space to do it. So, I took advantage of a Sunday am without the kids and had the hubs move shelves from one room to my office-all part of our use what you have commitment. Then I got luck and had two snow days. The kids cooperated and now I have an office, that was once the nursery, but it is perfect.

Now That’s How You Get Things Done

Really, you want to know the secret?  Send the kids to grandma and grandpa’s.  My MIL is coming to visit for Thanksgiving a week from today and we had to get the playroom turned into a guest room.  I know if you have been reading my blog for any length of time you will know that our guest room is now in it’s third location.  We have a really small house but are fortunate enough to have 3 rooms upstairs–the playroom use to be Noah’s room.  Noah’s current room was the junkroom office and Zoë’s current room was first the guest room and then Noah’s second room. and Noah’s current room was also once the guest room.  I know it’s a bit confusing, but now all 3 rooms upstairs have served as both the guest room and Noah’s room.  Zoë has been lucky and she has had only one room.

So, today we hung a door and moved the guest bed/futon and rearranged some furniture and toys.  I love to rearrange furniture because it makes everything seem new when it isn’t.  My brother teases me quite often that he has never met anyone who rearranges more than I do.  I enjoy it and I have always moved furniture around as often as possible for the “new” room feel.  It’s cheaper than buying stuff to really make the room new.

How to do freshen/change up your space without spending money on those things that would really make it new?

Just had to post this picture of Noah in the bounce house….

My Handyman and Friday Weigh-in

We put Peeper’s crib together last night.  We are hoping to start the transition to her sleeping in the crib.  She is eating a lot less at night now so should be ready to sleep on her own soon.  It will take time to transition her and we will start with naps first.

Anyway to the funny part of my story.  I guess it’s funny in that “paint yourself into a corner” kind of way.  We were putting the crib together and I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to Hubby’s part.  We get done with putting the frame together and I am admiring it, but notice that Hubby is in the middle of the crib.  Now he is a big guy–6’5 250lbs.  He has built himself into the crib.  Now this isn’t the funny part.  The funny part was watching my completely inflexible husband get down on the ground and attempt to crawl out from under the crib.  It was priceless and I wished I had had my camera with me.

I didn’t lose any weight this week, but I didn’t gain any either.  Considering I didn’t count my points and didn’t really exercise and certainly didn’t sleep or eat very good, I am so very happy.

A Boy’s First Worm and a 2nd Birthday Party

Minnow touched his first earthworm today.  How exciting for a little boy.  He did try to stomp on it but I stopped him, teaching him that we must be nice to all creatures–note to self “do not stomp spiders in front of young child”.  He then picked up the worm and put him back in the dirt pile.  He thought it was pretty cool.  He spend half of the morning holding up his finger reminding me that he “touched a worm.”  A true highlight of a young boys life.

The worm touching was just the first in a long line of excitement today.  We celebrated Minnow’s 2nd birthday–his acutal birthday is Monday but that really isn’t a great day for a party.  Minnow had a great time.  He loves having company.  He got lots of great presents–mostly clothes–which is awesome as the child doesn’t really need anymore toys and I figure that this is one of the last years that he can get clothes before he starts making that face when he opens that clothes.  Come on–we all know that face.  Just think back to that sweather your grandma gave you when you were 13.  Yeah. That’s the face.  The highlight in terms of presents was the 6 pack of bubbles and the bubble mower.

What 2-year-olds birthday party is complete without a Mickey Mouse Cake.  I am proud to say that he blew out his own candle and helped himself to the cake before I could even cut it.  Did you know that you can cut pieces of cake too big?  I didn’t.  I can’t believe that pieces of cake can be too big.  Live a little people!

Lastly, the mural is Minnow’s new big boy room was completed today–after 14 hours of work by an absolutely amazing artist.  I hope that Minnow will love it for years to come.  I think it turned out absolutely amazing….We are having a mural also done in Peepers room.  I’ll post pictures of it on Monday when it’s finished.
