Bad Parenting Moment #3255 or Let It Snow!

first-snow-07-011.JPG

We had our first snowfall of the year this weekend–we ended up with about 6 inches of snow.  I live in the midwest, but with all this global warming business we haven’t gotten much snow for the past 5 or so winters.  Well, they were calling for lots of snow–I didn’t think they were right.  I was unprepared for Minnow to get to play in the snow.  So, after 2 days of snowing I decided to go to Target and get him some snow boots.  Well, I was a day late on the whole get snow boots for the kids and all that were left were pink boots.  Aren’t they cute?  They are a tad big, but I wanted Minnow to get to play in the snow.  Besides he doesn’t know that pink is a girls color. And by the time he does know, well it will be too late to change the evidence.  I mean I am posting the picture on the internet–where it will live forever.

Minnow didn’t quite know what to make of this funny white stuff at first–he didn’t see any snow last year.
But once he figure out you could touch it and not explode or die he had a blast.

Day 25

Overheard today in my own car…

What movie do we have to watch tonight?

Ocean’s Thirteen.

This is the third one right?

Yeah.

The first was was what?  Ocean’s Eleven?

Yeah.

What was the second one called?

Ocean’s Twelve honey…

Oh…Shut up.

Thankful Post Six or Day 24

I am ready to be done with chronicling what I am thankful for…as it is a lot of work to look deep into your life and really talk about what you are thankful for.  I am done with the posts that lament on a person or two and am not moving on to bullet points.  I will think of some grand way to finish this week of thanks–maybe.  But for today it is a list.

 I am thankful for…

Health–and the ability to do strenuous exercise (riding centuries and such).
Courage– I have overcome many things and have only been able to do that with courage.
Determination–without it I woudn’t be pursuing my doctorate or even be completing my Masters.
Love–receiving it and giving it.
Intellectual ability–this is something I had to work to develop and maintain.
Music–there is something that happens in music that brings people together and transcends race, religion, and social class.
Coffee–I know it is trivial but I am happy that I can afford to have good coffee at home.
Opportunity–and the strength to answer the knock when it come (all we are given is the chance we have to make the most of it).
Strength–see above.
Money–we are lucky to have enough to live a comfortable life and to give to others in need.  I wish I had more to give away.

There is so much much more I could be thankful for.  I am also thankful for my husbands family…I didn’t write about them in my family post and should have, as I am thankful to have them…

Second Life or Day 13

Have you heard of Second Life?  Don’t worry, I hadn’t either until this past week in one of my grad classes.  We are reading a book this week titled Snow Crash. It is a futuristic tale and a large part of the action takes place in a virtual reality world much like Second Life.

Second life and the idea behind it amazes me.  People actually buy and sell property.  You can buy clothes–digital of course and made by other on line.  There is the exchanging of currency, etc.  I checked it out only long enough to learn how to change my appearance and am not really inclined to go back.  I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised by this, as it really is just more advanced facebooking/myspacing.  I have a hard enough time in my first life trying to take care of all I need to take care of that I can’t even imagine trying to live a second life.

So who out there has a second life?  One that is computer related not one in which you like to dress up like the opposite sex and be dressed like a baby–that seems almost normal….

Bad Parenting Moments #927 and #928

Well they go together.  Minnow has learned to climb up on the coffee table and subsequently learned how to through himself off–I sadly watched the whole thing–certainly not knowing what was going to happen.  When I saw him up on the table, I quickly told him to sit down and to get down–well he got down without sitting.  I guess I should be grateful he listened….

Minnow can climb up onto one of our couches.  He was up there sitting nicely reading a book.  It was quite cute.  I turned to answer the phone and as I turned back, he was “walking” off of the couch to get the ringing phone.  Again, I was watching.  I certainly will not win any parenting awards today.

I’ll try again tomorrow.
