A Self-What???

I just got my first assignment for my class titled, “Examining History, Community and Social Justice in Education.”  First off, class doesn’t start until Tuesday and I already have reading to do and an assignment.  You have to love a professor that doesn’t appear to want to waste the first class period.  And here I was hoping I would get out of class early to go hang out with my mom’s group.  Well. Shit.  So, I have to create a self-portrait, using any medium I would like to describe who I am in the world/convey my place in the world.  I obviously will choose photos, but I don’t know what the heck I am going to do.  I was and still am not prepared for school to be starting again.  I was suppose to have 5 more days left before class starts.

Now, I have homework.

Not only do I have homework but I am teaching two new classes this semester and I have to prepare for that too.  All by Monday.  No problem right?

So, let me ask a final question…”who am I?”

  1. I can’t tell you who you are, but I can tell you that as a fellow student, I sympathize!!! Last semester I had tons of homework due the first day of the semester. But it paid off in the long run (or so I try to convince myself to avoid complete lack of motivation…:-)

  2. In undergrad I took a photography class and had to do a self-portrait with photos. It was hard and mine didn’t turn out the way I wanted, but you are so good with the camera – I think yours will be amazing. And, with that medium, you can use the abstract to your advantage. Good luck!

  3. Well, I, for one, did not know that you were the Dalai Mama. I have visited your store but didn’t connect you with the you I met in person. So, I’m so glad that I’ve now visited your blog and pieced together all the parts of the puzzle.

I’m sure, though, since you already knew you were the Dalai Mama, that piece of info. coming from me doesn’t really help you with your assignment! : )

  4. A challenge — and it’s not for an art class, but for a sociology class. Think of the purpose of the class: how does your view of yourself fit into it? That might guide you. Good luck!
