First Real Trip To The Doctor

Peepers had her first official check up today at the docs.  We went in last Tuesday because she had come home with an ear infection and had a rash all over her belly and chest.  The ear infection has cleared up and the rash turned out to be eczema and that has cleared as well.

She has gained a pound since our visit on Tuesday.  She still isn’t on the growth charts for weight, but is a respectable 40th percentile for height and nearly 50th percentile for head circumference.  She has hit all of her six month milestones and is quickly racking up her nine month milestones.  Now if only she would sleep more–but I know that will come and that she is adjusting and playing catch up.

We go in tomorrow for a massive blood draw–for a laundry list of tests and then back on Thursday to read her PPD test and get a couple more “catch-up” vaccines.  She is a trooper and the doc is impressed again at the good health that my Ethiopian kids have come home with as well as their complete lack of developmental delays.

I have accepted this current state of my life as the new “normal” and have decided that I must figure out how to cope.  I have figured out that the more I move the less tired I am–it’s that whole physics thing “a body in motion stays in motion…”

We are finding our stride and hope that it keeps up.

  1. You’ve hit on something with the motion idea…just keep them going and yourself going and before you know it you’ll have gotten somewhere and it will all seem more normal (-:

Can’t wait to see Peepers IRL at our next Wannafest! She is a dolly!

  2. The motion makes sense and hooray for good news from the Doc. The pics you posted are gorgeous. Its great to see Minnow and Peepers together – you all together. Hang in there. You have tons of “fans” cheering you on via the net – it will get better (from what I hear)!

Oh, and its funny – I was looking through some old emails tryin’ to figure something out and just saw that your orig. blog was the first Ethiopia-adoption related blog I forward to family. Time flies.

Happy day to you and wishes for peaceful rest within the happy, challenging chaos

  3. I definitely agree with the staying busy part. I have also found that being outside a lot helps—–thank goodness for kiddie blow up pools. I have discovered that is the best way to get through the time between dinner and bed. And other parts of the day if needed 🙂 I remember when Boomer was just sitting up and I would sit next to him and catch him every time he was falling over into the water. He loved it!

  4. I think that whole body in motion stays in motion bit must be true. I notice when I become stationary too often, then I start to feel lazy…

Glad to read the docs are getting her all fixed up!
