Double Standard

When I am sick–“It’s all in your head.”

When he is sick–“I’m just trying to stay alive.  A little sympathy please.”

What the fuck is that about?  I have been sick since I got home from Portland (with a severe cold) and it’s all in my head.  I slept til 8 this morning and all I get after I report that the baby slept pretty good–I only had to get up twice (yes, I am the one who is sick)–“Oh you must have gotten too much sleep.”

No, asshole I didn’t get too much sleep.  I am sick and there isn’t enough sleep in the world to make me feel better.  Thanks for your concern.

What would happen if these words were spoken to him when he was sick?  Yes the world as we know it would end.  Sometimes life just sucks.

  1. Feel better, muffin. Bryan got zero sympathy from me when he got sick our last day at the beach in Oregon–the day we simultaneously had to clean the beautiful and large beach house so it looked as pristine as when we arrived despite the fact 6 kids and 6 adults had tornadoed it for several days, the day my daughter decided to act as 2 as possible, the day my son decided to become needy, the day work decided to get “interesting” despite the fact that I was on vacation. Ugh. When I’m sick I don’t have the luxury of sleeping all day either, so instead I gave lots of dirty looks and talked a whole lotta trash to Kim :).

  2. AGHH! Why are men such BABIES about being sick? Drives me nuts. My ex used to get mad at me for being sick – like it was some kind of affront to him. Unbelievable.

Hope you feel better soon and I hope your hubby improves his attitude. 🙂

  3. They ARE babies, aren’t they? My husband is the living incarnation of the Everybody Loves Raymond episode about this when he’s sick. Meanwhile have any of us women had a “sick day” since, oh, maybe the early 1990s? Nope.

Hope you feel better soon – it was nice to meet you while you were in OR!

  4. Is there anyway he meant “it’s all in your head” like verifying that you have a head cold and it isn’t in your chest or something??…..I didn’t think so, but figured it was worth a shot!

  5. Perhaps the only way he will have the slightest understanding is for you to pass the cold onto him…of course that would probably just make your life misserable because then you’d have 3 babies to care for. Feel better soon!

  6. I feel your pain! My hubby goes in our room shuts the door and doesn’t come out until he is well again…must be NICE! I’d like to yell in his face with a bull horn when he’s sick…stupid-ass is a favorite word of mine and I think it was made for sick men!
