Yes, That Crazy Lady In The Parking Lot Was Me

Hubby left today on a business trip.  He’ll be in the big apple for the next 4 days–where I hear from him the weather is beautiful today.  I am always a little off balance when he is out of town–as though I have his share of the parenting balanced precariously on one shoulder–causing me to walk with a bit of a limp.

Because hubby is gone…I had to rush from work to pick up Minnow and meet my mom at my house for babysitting and then drive back out to school for class.  Needless to say that both the college I teach at and the one I attend are 30 minutes from my house and only about 10 minutes from each other.  So, I did a lot of driving today in the ice/rain/sleet.

I get all the way to school (only 2 minutes late) and I run into a classmate who tells me that my prof cancelled class.  Great, as I can now catch up on the reading I didn’t get all the way finished, but really I drove an extra 40 minutes that I didn’t need to.  So now I have all this time, as my mom is watching Minnow.  I decide to swing by Whole Foods and pick up some staples (i.e. junk food–yes they have this) since are suppose to get close to 10 inches of snow and hubby is out of town and I probably won’t be cooking–well making much from scratch.  So, I check out using a good chunk of Minnow’s college fund–he’s cute he doesn’t really need college–and head out to my car.  I see it right away and walk up to it.  I hit the unlock button and proceed to the rear of the car.  The rear door doesn’t open on the SUV.  I pull and pull thinking maybe it is frozen shut.  I hit the button and nothing happens.

Finally I look up and see my car one row over in the same spot.  Just in time for the owner of this car that I thought was mine to ask if he could help me.

If only I could have thought of a snappy retort.  I just apologized and walked with my head held high…deciding whether to laugh or cry as I opened my own car.

***this isn’t the first time this has happened.  the first time the car in question was actually unlocked and I got in and it took me minutes to figure out that the reason the key wouldn’t turn in the ignition was that it wasn’t my fucking car.  You’d have thought the leather upholstery would have given that away.

Thank You For Stopping By

we will return on Sunday…as it is 55 and sunny today and tomorrow.  We are out enjoying the weather today and tomorrow after what seems likes months trapped in the house by a cold, snowy and dreary winter.

Sunday I will be posting about some ideas presented at a lecture given by one of my most favorite authors–Salman Rushdie.  He is one of the world’s great minds.

The First Wait Is Over

We got our referral this afternoon.  It is an amazing feeling.  Our little girl is approximately 3 1/2 months old and is elegible to have her case in court after March 15th.  This means that we could travel as soon as the end of May.  From her on out she shall be known Peepers.  For those of you who have seen her picture can attest to the brightness and hugeness of her eyes.  We are very excited and cannot wait to be able to bring her home.

I will keep you all posted. She is a little bitty thing at 1 month old she was only 20 inches and weighed in at a weight of 6.6 lbs.  that was of course a little over 2 months ago, so I am sure she is slightly bigger than that now.

I will post a picture of her when I can–after her case clears court.  Just take my word for it that she is gorgeous.
